Create Outline

Outlines in documentARRAY

Many software products designed to create websites create the logical structure right from the list of the page items and sub-items.

documentARRAY is different. It uses a tree of pages for easier navigation while also supporting a flat view. However, when exporting to PDF or the web, an outline is required to create the menu. This allows for the localization of the menu, the addition of links to external sources, and the ability to freely enter captions. These captions act as links pointing to an empty destination.

Example Outline:

This will create a web page menu which can look like this:

Editing

To indent a paragraph with a link use one of the buttons 0..7. Please note that web menus are usually limited to 2 or 3 levels. However it is possible that sub levels can be displayed in a sub menu which is displayed in a side bar on the page.

Insert Caption

Use the button [Caption] to insert an empty link. Such links are used as menu parents for web menues.

Insert Link

You can use the button [Link] to insert one or more links.

To insert multiple links select more items in the "Select Topic" dialog.

Conditions

You can also appy a condition to a link:

In this case the outline will be only produced if the symbol "PRINT" was defined by the template.

Since the character "#" was used, the page will be completely removed of the output. Otherwise the page can still be exported if the pages collection was specified as source in the export template.

Nav-Mode

If the checkbox "Nav-Mode" was selected, a double click on any link will locate the linked page and display in the page editor.

Create Outline from pages editor

The pages editor uses a tree view which supports filtering and sorting.

To create the logical structrue of the output though this tree is not directly used. Insead you can create one (or more) outline elements which can then be used by the target script..

At the beginning the outline is empty. You can use a simple method to fill it with the logical structure from the pages tree. To do so open all branches which should be visible in the pages tree and then press CTRL+A to select all. No click on
